Research Center Database Analyst

Job Description:

Job Summary

Support Research Center databases management, statistical programming, and data management efforts. Contribute to STS National Database harvest analytics, as well as to data quality improvement and research projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Databases and Data Management:

• Work closely with the Manager, STS Research Center Databases, to maintain all research and harvest analytics databases and datasets.
• Prepare documentation such as data flow diagrams, data mapping documents, and data dictionaries.
• Develop standardized database querying and analysis reporting templates to increase efficiency and accuracy of work product.
• Perform regular data uploads to Research SQL clinical sub-specialty databases.
• Identify and implement data management requirements for data analytics.
• Generate quality checked cumulative and harvest-specific analytic datasets corresponding to all STS databases.
• Perform data quality checks and confirm accuracy and completeness of analytic datasets used by the RC analytic team.

Analytics:

• Assist in and conduct analyses for investigator minor data requests corresponding to STS National Database registries.
• Assist in and conduct feasibility assessments for research proposals submitted by investigators to the Access and Publications program corresponding to STS National Database registries.
• Perform data aggregations, tabulations and other analyses for industry data requests and other Research Center projects.
• Support the Research Center database harvest analytics, including running analysis code, aggregating results, and sharing outputs with the relevant stakeholders.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data science, epidemiology, or other related field (e.g., computer science, engineering, or mathematics) is required.

Experience

A minimum of 1 year of related work experience in data management, data analysis, statistical programming, and report writing is required. Familiarity with healthcare, clinical databases/registries, or medical association environment is desirable.

Essential Skills and Abilities

• Excellent knowledge of, and experience in, statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS, PYTHON)
• High Proficiency in SQL database skills and programming
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing, data mining, and data mapping
• Proficiency with business intelligence tools (Tableau, Microsoft BI) desirable
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
• Experience with graphical representation of data is required
• Ability to participate in evening conference calls, as necessary
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational, planning, and follow-through capabilities; attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously
• Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, volunteer surgeon leaders, and other organizations; tact, diplomacy, and good judgment
• Ability to expand technical skills and familiarity with data resources to meet STS work requirements
• Positive attitude in the workplace

• Limited travel may be required
